The Book of Revelation

The Book of Revelation, it is safe to say, is that part of the Bible, loved by some and avoided by others. Some love it to obsession. Luther hated it and thought it should never have been included in the cannon of scripture! I fall into the first camp and make no apologies for that. This is my journey through it and my own quirky interpretation of it. I have not tried to depict the imagery directly. In fact, some of it defies artistic intepretation and is best left to the  individual to see it how they will. But I have used certain ideas. The imagery in this art is both in sepia and colour. The sepia represents the world that is passing, hence the destruction. The colour represents the world to come, the new Heaven and Earth promised to Believers. The book is riddled with number seven symbolism so I have used that extensively. The scripture in the burnt parchment is a linking scripture to the main text. You will also notice that some of the birds are white, (Leucistic not albino) They represent the white robes given to the overcomer. Anyway, enough for now.
All the art  in this Gallery was created using various brands of Acrylic paint on 140lb Fabriano Artistico Paper. 22* x 15* (Does not use animal products in the sizing) I used Rosemary & Co Brushes. (Synthetic) The calligraphy was done by hand using a brush and acrylic ink.
